The Barque
A story of love, loss, and learning to live gently in a wild world
The Barque is a poetic documentary set in a biodiverse mountain paradise near Golden, British Columbia, where filmmaker Vera Neverkevich and her partner Ben leave city life to live among the wild. When years of drought followed by relentless rain upset the fragile balance of their new home, the loss of their beloved dogs to invisible bacteria transforms their dream into a journey of grief, scientific discovery, and coexistence with the natural world.
Current status: in development, compiling existing footage, financing.
Production dates: April - October 2026.

In this initial phase we use a stock music track - the final soundtrack in the film will incorporate natural ambience and original music by Rupert Egerton-Smith.

The following clips are examples of raw footage with temporary voiceover by Vera. Footage is from a number of wildlife trail cameras and cellphones,
to be combined with high-quality cinematic b-roll to be filmed in 2026, interviews, and a research project by an ecologist into the pond and
local water sources.
